#ThankYouCletus
I was involved in a discussion recently on the topic of improving discourse.
One of the things that came up is the increasing phenomenon of people displaying certain modes of behaviour to a particular class of troll.
You know the sort of troll I mean. Starts a thread with 'atheism is a religion', or 'you believe the universe came from nothing, by nothing, by accident for no reason'.
This is leading to targeted reporting, and it means that useful users are getting suspended. We need a better stratagem for dealing with such instances, so here it is:
Welcome to the #ThankYouCletus Campaign.
If you experience one of these asinine arguments, don't engage. Simply post the above image and don't forget to include the hashtag #ThankYouCletus so that the rest of us can have a good laugh at it. Give them nowhere to go. Don't give them oxygen, just shut them down and move on.
Spread the word, and let's begin to treat these cretinous trolling statements with precisely the contempt they deserve.
Thank you.
